G'day all
I have a question for those experienced with computer/gps set-ups.
I have a Tomtom that gets me around the city, and a Garmin 60CSx/Oziexplorer-on-the-laptop set up, for trips and trip planning. In the Jackaroo, things get crowded with the laptop open for moving map, so I am looking at one of those cheaper '7"screen gps do it all units' that are on eBay.
I have found a unit that seems to fit the bill, sold from Australia, and quote
"GPS operating system Windows CE 5.0
- Detects satellite signal faster than normal GPS unit
- Compatible with major GPS software e.g. OziExplorer, TomTom, iGO, Route66, Papago, etc."
So, do you think that this means OziCE and Natmaps could be installed on this unit, with little trouble (no trouble would be better for me!). Takes microSD card to 32Gig.
This is it
if you have time to have a look.
Thanks for your time, Cheers, Dave

I recently purchased a 5" unit from
Chinavision that fits the bill. It came preloaded with iGO8.3 but no Oz maps. Had to find them myself (Ahhrr me hearties!!) 4 of my work mates have purchased similar units (5", 6.2" and 2x7"). They come in sizes from about 4.5" to 7" with various options (like reversing cameras etc). Delivery was via DHL and they all came from China in about 4 days.
How good are they?
The iGO8 software is OK but all units had an issue when resuming from standby (after turning the car off..) in that they would freeze, requiring a soft reboot. Major PITA!
I've since found a copy of iGO Primo v1.1 (Ahhrr me hearties!!) that completely solves that problem and is a far better package than iGO8.
Using Primo it is an excellent on road route navigator with all the features you could want from a nav unit.
I also have OziCE loaded and that works fine for all off road activities.
If you're not comfortable with finding your own maps/software updates (Ahhrr me hearties!!) then I suggest that one of these Chinese generic units is not for you.
Cheers..

Hi all
For those interested in the outcome, I found a slightly different unit on eBay, which I have now purchased. I haven't recieved it yet, so can't comment on quality etc as yet.
This is the link if you want to have a look:
For those that just want a quick run down, it uses unlocked win ce, igo software and whereis maps. Max microsd card is 16 gig. 'Unlocked Win CE' comes from the advert, the info on the software, mapping and micro sd card comes from asking the seller the questions.
Screen is 7", unit has bluetooth for phone, and other features.
The seller is based in Vic, but I do not think English is his first language, however , my questions were responded to very quickly, and politely.
Hope this assists anyone in a similar position, Cheers, Dave.
P.S. $119 delivered
