Mouse Plague extent?

We intend travelling by caravan from Victoria, thru Echuca, via the Kidman Hwy to Cunnamulla, thence thru Longreach to Cloncurry, on to the Barkly Tablelands. We normally camp out most nights.

Our eventual destination is thru the Kimberly, then Pilbara to Albany and Esperance, then east to Victoria. We have done this trip using different roads 4-5 times.

Having experienced a few mouse plagues when living in the Wimmera, I would prefer not to tangle with the little blighters unless necessary.

We can travel in the opposite direction, but as camping on the Nullabor at the end of the trip, is always a highlight, would prefer the anti-clockwise route.

Does anyone know if the mice have cleared the Kidman, Landsborough route at this time? Are there mice in the Mnt Isa/Camooweal area?
Are there mice on the Barkly Tablelands?

Am I correct in assuming that the country south of Coober Pedy is vermin free?

Any help you can give with these questions will assist, as we are due to leave this Friday, and will be at about Bourke by Sunday, if we go that way.

Thanks John And Val, I saw that thread, but it does not address the areas in which I intend to travel.

I've just replied to you on the Caravaner's Forum. Anyway, Andamooka and Roxby downs are so bad. It's eased off from what it was, but they are terrible.

Make sure you've got your bucket, coke bottle, peanut butter and rope for the home-made mice traps. That's the only one that seems to work.

The Kidman is all clear, we didn't get a "plague" out here, had a lot during the floods but not plague proportions.

We are heading to the centre in August via Broken Hill, Port Augusta and Coober Pedy. My wife keeps asking me about the mice out there with a little trepidation in her voice. I hope there are less of them by then although our 3 year old would probably find it fun.

I keep hearing that a few sub zero nights will wipe most out. Wouldn't they be just burrowing into the sand and keep warm?
