Hi Guys, I am having a seriously bad run with anything and everything 'IT' this week. Anyway, my Explorist 600 is doing the 'not recognised ' thing with the computer (apparently because they cord connection is dodgey- a well known issue with these units) and I was hoping to load some geocashes directly to the sd card by putting the card into the card slot. However the computer tells me the card is read only. So my question is, if I slide the write protect thing to the other position, am I risking corrupting all my 'Discover Aus' data that is factory loaded onto the SD card? Has anyone loaded cashes to the SD card directly from the computer? Thanks. doc.

hi Doc..... i am NOT IT savvy but from what i read you simply have to "slide" the write protect if you want to load anything on to it, you know the thing i hate about computers is that they are essentially very simple, they do exactly as you tell them to do so if you place the slide in "write protect" then you wont be able to write to it, if you slide it back then you can wipe everything off it, but only if YOU instruct the computer to do so, it will NEVER do anything without being instructed to do so......
I do know i have made a folder on my "desktop" and copyied the contents of the SD card onto it just in case i do wipe everything off it, then i have played with it with the old contents set aside just in case ....
Cheers
Joe

Hi Joe, thanks for the reply, however you have obviously not met my computer! ( The computer fixit guy will be here next week).I thought the Discover Aus maps on the SD card were copy protected to prevent people from unauthorised sharing? Have I got this wrong?cheers, doc.

If you have no luck here trying going over to www.geocaching.com.au - going into the forum tab and asking there. Its an Aussie forum and a solution should be with very quickly.

Hi Oz Doc,
Dare I ask, but have you rebooted the PC?
There's usually some great help available via www.gpsoz.com.au too.
I had a problem with downloading regions to my old Meridian a couple of weeks ago. Had to uninstall then reinstall DiscoverAus on the PC.
Good luck.

Ha Ha Russler - therein lies one of my problems- my computer is not booting up into windws.system restore takes 3 hours, the monitor needs 6 powerups to get it to stay on, the cd drive is broken, the wireless internet connection drops out every 15 mintues, the card reader won't read the sd card, and the computer will not talk to the printer-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! So I have booted it up allright- booted right out the front door. After hours of gutsache trying to resurrect things today I have admitted defeat and bought a new computer( and I needed this expense like a hole in the head!!). So after I load a few programs on I am going to again try to transfer the cashes to the sd card directly. (I was unable to locate a replacement cord for the Explorist in Bunbury). So wish me luck.cheers, doc.

G'day Doc

I've been fiddling around with GPS stuff all weekend, but surprisingly, I had success!!

Just keep in mind, 'there is hope, I will succeed, there is hope, I will succeed'.

Best of luck, I think we have all been to where you are at, to one degree or another.

Cheers, Dave

oz doc
I have an Explorist 600, mainly used for huntinh, but used it on a 15,000km trip thru th eKinberley, and the Canning Stock Route, and love it ..
But I have a problem, as I cannot load maps from Vic onto my computer...
All other States not an issue, but living in Vic, and most of my stuff is done in Vic, it drives me nuts.

On your SD card there are folders for your POI's, and Routes, and I have used these folders on several occasions, to load up from and to save to...

Should not be an issue, but have you tried to back up your maps onto another SD card, and then try all types of things..That is all I have tried to do, but it schytes itself when it comes to copy Vic.

Cheers
Bucky
