Some people have asked if any one can make a
water tank that can replace the spare wheel under utes. Yes there is, I have read a number of forums where people have suggested a replacement tank in this space after moving their tyre to an external carrier.
Well I had the same need so I spoke to my old mate in the sheet metal trade and he said he could give it a go if enough people were interested enough to make it viable. The idea was to make the tank easy to install with a built in pressure pump and simply connect the spare wheel winch and pull it into position. Plug into the tow bar power plug and water on demand. tank sizes would be between 50 and 80 litres capacity. If you can change a tyre on your 4x4 then you can fit this tank, I would like some feed back on this idea whether its worth going ahead with it or am I wasting my time.

hi bob f1
the idea of putting a
water tank where the spare was is ok and a pump
but the idea of holding the 50-80ltrs of water 50kg or 80kg of weight plus the tank weight under there with the spare tyre winch inmho will not be successful as that amount of water is a lot heavier than the spare tyre and you would need to bolt it in very securely or it wouldn't stay there very long on a rough corregated track thats my thoughts on it

hi litlbalts wife
yes thats right a huge amount of fuel tanks are put in the same place but they are not held there with the spare tyre winch and that was my point when reference was made about the weight factor etc
cheers

But they are bolted in place not held up by the spare wheel winch.
I was thinking of using an old lpg donut tank for a fuel tank and using the winch but also using trucking style tie downs connected to the chassis to carry the weight.

Go and see ARB , Opposite lock, BCF.
There are many styles of tanks you can get made of food grade plastic that have a pump attached.
They are exy but a none off purchase as they can be removed and fitted to other vehicles.
