I've just bought a Black Wolf turbo lite and the instructions that came with it recommend weathering the tent. I thought it was only Canvas tents that require weathering?

I think you will find that they are made of Rip-Stop Poly-Cotton Canvas, same as the Oz Tent. Yes they do need to be weathered. Friends failed to weather their Oz Tent and suffered the consequences in the first rains. After this unintended weathering they now have a nice waterproof tent.

Ah yes, sorry Krackar, my mistake. Thought they were same material from when I was comparing them some time ago. Should have double checked before I posted incorrect information instead of relying on my failing memory.
Not sure why you would question the manufacturers recommendations though. I reckon they would be better equipped to know what needs to be done to their own products than anyone else.

If the manufacturer recommends weathering of this non-canvas tent then I'm guessing that it might be to ensure that the stitching in the seams swells and is water tight.

Another good weather proofing idea is to run a wax candle along the stitching inside and out, helps to seal the holes and protect the cotton.
Have used this method on all stitching for any out door protection.

I thinl you will find that the Turbolites are fully synthetic with no canvas. We have one and didn't bother weathering it. Haven't had any leaks to date although we nearly got blown away on Moreton before Christmas by a massive storm!. No rips - she held together- passed with flying ( nearly) colours!

I weathered the tent yesterday. Got it nice and wet and let it dry a couple of times. See how it goes. Got a little bit of water inside without the fly on, and not a drop with it on. See how it goes this weekend. Hopefully it doesn't rain though!
