Just a thought from the Electricery minded people. I have a compressor and the cable is far to short. It only sits on the ground by the front wheels when connected to the battery. The air hose reaches the back wheels but not the spare on the rear door. Question: I have an Anderson Plug at the rear and was wondering if it is ok to connect the compressor to this. Steve.B....

As long as the cable is big enough to run the amps that the compressor draws.

Mine drags 30 amps Max, but there are many types of compressor around so don't know about yours..

I use mine with anderson plugs and can plug it into the caravan, or the tow vehicle.

I also have an extension lead with anderson plugs, makes it easy to reach bits and pieces needing 12 volts.

Notso. Thank you for that. The Anderson plug is wire from the starter battery for power to the aux battery by an Auti Electrician with a 30 amp fuse so it should be Ok.

Thank again

Another thing that can certainly help is to have your engine running while using the compressor, probably with the revs upped to above idle. This will raise the battery voltage a couple of volts, which will reduce the amperage demand at the compressor and cause it to run much more efficiently (if the compressor requires say 48 watts it will draw 4 amps at 12 volt but only 3.42 amps at 14 volts).

Sorry Tom, that's not how it works for direct current motors of this type.
A compressor whose motor is rated at 48 watts is the rating at the nominal 12 volts. It will draw 4 amps at the 12 volts but will draw more like 4.6 amps at 14 volts, although with increased performance of air delivered.

Alternating current induction motors are another matter again.

Cheers

i used to run my compressor off of an anderson plug in the back of my vehicle, i just cut the old aligator clips off and put an anderson plug on the compressor and never had any problems. only reason i've stopped doing it now is because i have air lockers and use the compressor from that to inflate tyres now.
cheers
