Has this ever happened to you ? Do you know how to fix the problem ?

Also I am finding it impossible to get my POIs (waypoints) from my Magellan Explorist 500 , onto either Oziexplorer or Google Earth . Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Willie.

I cannot see the last part of your heading but I assume your google earth waypoints are all some distance off the mark when imported into Oziexplorer.
Google earth uses the WGS84 datum. The maps you are loading into Ozi might be using a different datum. Under the file tab in Ozi select configuration and then the map tab in the box that pops up. Check the datum you are using.

Glen,

All my waypoints are a couple of hundred metres north of where they should be on Oziexplorer, when I import them from Google Earth as kml fil.

I have checked and all my OziExplorer settings in "Configurations" - they are showing WGS 84.
My OziExplorer is set on ;
Configuration / System / Data File System WGS 84
Configuration / Maps / Blank Map Datum WGS 84
Configuration / GPS / Upload Download Datum WGS 84
Configuration / GPS / GPS NMEA Output Datum WGS 84

Google Earth and Ozi and my Magellan Explorist 500 are all in Deg,Min,Sec.

Another problem I have is that I cannot import my POIs from my Magellan into either Oziexplorer or Google Eart.

I am doing something radically wrong, but I am buggered if I know what.

Thanks for getting back to me,

Willie.

Willie,
All I can think of is that the maps you are using were made using a different datum. I've tried many options but I can't get waypoints to load anywhere but the correct placement on any of my maps. Open one of your xxx.map files with wordpad and look at about line 5 to see which datum the maps use.
Have you tried different maps?

Sorry, I have no idea about Magellan POIs. Never used one.

Hi

Datum of the loaded map in OziExplorer will not affect the datum of any data you choose to load - they are independant of each other. Data will appear to plot in the wrong position if the datum of the map is wrong but if the data has the correct datum the file will export OK and data should therefore plot OK in Google Earth.

Only thing I can think of is to check the display datum on the GPS. Havent fiddled with the older Magellans for a while but do recall that some would transmit data in a datum other than WGS84 if the display datum was set to something other than WGS84. So make sure it is WGS on the GPS. This is what OziExplorer is expecting when it is importing the data form the GPS (based on your config settings).

Cheers

Woops - misread initial post. It would indeed appear that the maps you are using are calibrated incorrectly if Google Earth points are plotting in the wrong position when importing ito Ozi. None of the settings in configuration will have any affect only the map calibration.

What maps are you using Willie?

Cant help with communication problem - could be broken GPS, broken USB cable, broken usb port, wrong port settings in OziExplorer.

Suggest you try on another computer with a different usb cable you know is working etc etc to narrow it down to one issue.

Cheers

Greg and Glen,

I rang Brian at GPS Oz and he figured it out. My 250 mosaic map was not linked to the correct 250ECW file . Apparently it was a different year. Anyway, I got rid of it and re-loaded the one dated 2008 (same as map file) and it worked.

He also set me straight on importing the Magellan POIs into Ozi.

The only thing I am still buggered on, is importing my Magellan POIs into Google Earth. I used to be able to do it, but I am either doing something wrong or they have changed the software so it is no longer possible. Do you guys know anything about this.

Can I export waypoints from Ozi to Google ? If I could do that I could get the Magellan POIs in that way.

Thank you both for your help.

Willie.

Greg or Glen,

Can either of you tell me how to combine two WPT files in Oziexplorer.

I cannot put both files on a map at the same time. I open one - then I open a second one and the first one disappears off the map.

I went into Windows Explorer and thought I would move the waypoints of both into just one file, but I could not do that either.

There must be a way, I am just not seeing it.

Thanks a lot,

Willie.

Hello

Load one waypoint file in Ozi using normal method....then use "Load -> Append Waypoints From File"

Maybe a good idea to save the combined file to a different file name so you dont get confused.

Cheers
