I am trying to insure my new Triton 4X4 Cab chaise. Have put a Alluminium camping pod on back, with extras. insurance will only insure 4x4 and no extras. Anyone know of an insurance company that will insure everything.

I Have a 2005 hilux D4D with all the gear. Suncorp will insure vehicle and accessories as per agreed list with standard premium of $600-700 if I remember correctly, but high excess...about $1300.

Thanks Tony, I'll give them a ring. accessories worth more than the 4x4 so $1300 excess sounds ok.

You might also try CIL, they provide insurance for Caravans and motorhomes etc. so might do it.

Insurance is a funny thing for 4x4s, we had our insurance through our business and they would cover everything even if we had $100000 of accessories.
The only problem was we were paying around $450 per year more then some other estimates we got while doing our business budget and reviewing prices of business related expenses.
We approach our insurance broker and asked what was going on with the high insurance price, after a couple of days he got back to us and said we can put it under a private policy with the same company for $425 less then what we were paying BUT the catch was they would only insure accessories up to the value of 25% of the vehicle replacement cost.
When phoning around I got a lot of "no we don't cover 4x4's" and "It has a
suspension lift so no insurance" and the best one was by a company who advertisers 4x4 insurance (not the ones listed above) who said they will only insure it if it has a
suspension lift maximum 30mm..... my reply was I didn't think any company did a maximum 30mm
suspension lift, her reply was "
well thats all we accept".
I feel for 4x4ers who find it hard to get insurance to cover there investment and there must be heaps of 4x4s running around with no insurance.

I'm with Toyota Insurance for my 2007 D4D GXL auto Prado. 50mm lift, colour-coded bar, winch, CB radio, Scangauge, dual batteries, fog/
driving lights, rust and paint protection, towbar. $600 excess, no baddies against my name, me a bit old :-) which helps and Rating 1 NCB.
Market value cover costs me $887. And I get one glass claim per year without affecting claim history or premium.
It is Toyota, but I don't think they can exclude anyone with another badge - Trade Practices Act and all that stuff.
Cheers

Andy,
I have my Prado 150 insured with RAA. Have notified them of all my add-on hardware and it is covered at no additional premium except theft. Additional excess of $500 per item. If my car is written off it's a bargain. If it's stolen, I could have to sell my dog.
Swings and roundabouts I guess.

Skulldug, are your sure they are covering the accessories over and above the car value?
I'm with RAA too and recently spoke with them and faxed a list and value of my accessories..about $10K at that stage. They added them to the policy BUT the value they had listed for the car did not change. After some discussion they agreed to raise the value by $7000. (I have 5 policies with them and that may have carried some weight ?)
May pay to
check exactly how much your going to get if you write it off.
Cheers

We used TCIS Insurance brokers to get inurance on The Landy, needed to get a valuation done to confirm the amount we wanted as an agreed value...
Good luck...

I recently went through this and found Affinity insurance were efficient, pleasant to deal with and would allow me to insure the vehicle and add all the accessories at a supply and fit cost for their full agreed value. Cost me with windscreen cover and vehicle hire for 2 weeks and camping equipment cover of $3000 only $150 more than AAMI who would only cover the car for redbook value and accessories for total of 50% value of the car. Affinity covers you anywhere, even the middle of a river.

Thanks everyone, I have found one (NRMA) that will insure me for $65,000 including $35,000 of extras. With windscreen replacement 2 year new replacement with $600 excess for $640. This will also cover me on and off road and all tracks in between.

I am interested in you being covered every where with them. I spoke to NRMA and could not get them to either show me or provide me with that in writing when I asked about beaches, river crossings, etc.
It would be interesting to hear if they can do that for you.
All the best

Asked the same questions as
well, after a bit of a wait they got an underwriter to accept it. I can be in a river, creek, desert, as written anywhere within Australia. But knowing insurance company's there will be some little clause in it somewhere. Having my legal eagle look at it for me before making payment.

Comprehensive insurance is just that. You are covered anywhere you are legally entitled to be, and if it isn’t excluded under the policy or PDS than it is included. There is no need to specify beach driving, or creek crossings etc. People often want to have this clarified, but there is no need.
I have one of my Defenders covered with NRMA, take a look at page 23 of the PDS – things that may affect your cover and general exclusions, if they weren’t willing to cover beach driving, or creek crossings, they want need to specify that here, or elsewhere in the policy. In fact itemising where they will cover you want actually dilute the coverage you have under an insurance policy...
