Hi all
was travelling home last night when we hit a huge washout in the road. We got stuck and when pulled out the wheel was facing hard to the right, heard a big crack and on looking the front axle had snapped!! How do we replace it? have had a search about but not really having a lot of luck finding a simple and easy to follow method. Have the vehicle back home in the shed with the wheel off and you can see the shaft broken and the inner CV joint has spayed grease everywhere. Any advice would be gratefully received.
Cheers

Hi Claudie,
Try calling around local wreckers for the parts you need. I have seen rodeos snap tie rods causing the same issues. With some luck you will only need a tie rod (new) and CV axle assembly (from a wreck) and all will be good.

Thanks for your reply,
have pulled the front diff right out and the drivers side has snapped of inside the diff so will be probably looking for a complete diff as it has done a bit of damage to the side of the housing. Will be onto the wreckers asap

49,
With a bang like you must have had, there's every possibility that you have done more than busting the diff etc, you may also have altered the wheel base by a few mm or more.
Before you take it on the road please get everything checked out for the sake of all those on the roads around you.

Disco.

thanks for the reply. Was stopped and it was when we towed it out the axle snapped due to the wheel being stuck in a washout and being pulled sideways as the ute was pulled forward, got onto a wrecker who supplied a new shaft and advice on how to tackle the job.
Cheers
