Hi
Thinking of replacing original wind down legs with Alko Dropdown corner steadies.
Any comments, pitfalls in this?

Hi
Alan

The drop down legs are great.
1 Make sure your legs are not to long for swing clearance as you need length to allow for uneven ground if van is wound up at front for levelling, rear supports are a pain if to long and have to be on a angle instead of straight up and down.

2 Make sure you carry a few roll pins as the originals have a tendency to break. (They hold the cogs for winding up and down in place) easy to replace just need a 5/32 or 4mm pin punch. The roll pins need to be 25-32mm long in 4mm or 5/32inch. Have not broken any GJ ones that have been refitted.

Cheers
Charlie

Hi
Replacing the old "knee" joint legs, was one of the best thing I have done to our old Viscount Grand Tourer. We were always sheering roll pins on the old "knee" joint ones.
Cheers

Much, much better than the old style steadies. Keep in mind that they come in 2 different lengths, so you need to pick which is the most appropriate for you. If I could suggest, look at the length that will allow you to have them straight down for the majority of sites - they work best when at right angles to the trailer/van, although they will work at various other angles too.
