The 'locals' warned that some
waterholes were deep......Yeah yeah I know......I always walk a
waterhole before crossing!
So there were 5
waterholes on the track to
the beach in what Ron Moons Book describes as 'swampy country'
I walked the first 4 picking a line each time through murky black waters.......some were top of wheel depth......
And then came the 5th
waterhole and I said to SWMBO " Nah, will just drive through, it looks OK"................
Bloody Hell!!!...it was the deepest of them all....and I had the drivers side window open........
A bow of water washed halfway up the windscreen and then took the easiest course after that through the open window.....
Myself and the power window switches had a free bath.......
Electric windows were out of sorts after that going up and down at will!!!!
Pulled the doorskins off at
the beach and lathered the switches in wd40....they settled down within 24 hours.....
Got a brief from SWMBO.........
On the way back I had the window closed and a blind over the grille.....
Today we spent some time changing the oil on the transfercase and gearbox......
Wot fun!!!!
LOL
Cheers

Took my ageing father down the river one day in my 1 week old Navara & we drove across to an Island to give him his first look at it in many years. No problem, it is about a 15 to 20 foot wide crossing & only 12 inches of crystal clear water that gets plenty of use.
I came back 5 days later & there is a Torana blocking the road about 20 feet from the crossing. He looked like he had just crossed as he had the bonnet up & water running out from under his car.
So I just went around him & drove into the crossing & holey expletives expletives expletives. It comes half way up the expletives windscreen. I reckon I saw a
black bream swim over my bonnet. No
snorkel on the diesel here yet either by the way.
Then I am on the Island & there is only one way back.
When I get back the blokes in the Torana were thinking I was some sort of dill for doing that. Truth is, I was.
What had happened was the local sugar mill had gone down with an excavator & dug out the river bed to divert more water to the mill on that side of the Island.
The blokes in the Torana had only reversed down to the crossing to fill a leaky radiator & had splashed a fair bit of water around in the process.
That was 15 years ago & I have steered clear of that crossing ever since.

Must have gone through a bit fast Spero :-) I did post some pictures of these crossings some time ago - At the moment the deepest is top of bull bar.

Lots of maintenance required on your vehicle if you do this track as often as we do.
Cheers Tony
