Hi
I would be very surprised that there would be many about.
On the
farm here we had a heap of rats and mice about but the cold winter nights eventually quietened them down.
Hope you have a great trip.
Regards
Lachie

1st hand info from personal experience is the mice come up to you after dark and are always in your face and the rats were the same but always hidden russelling around in the bushes.
Dont let either of them enter your 4x4 by hanging cords or leaving objects near your car that they can climb or you will be finding open packets of everything like i did.

Zenonie,
I was camped on the Cooper at
Innamincka about 4 weeks back and didn't have any worries at all. usual common sense things apply like being careful with food, no food in tents etc. Here's a thread on the subject from last week.
Mice/rats in the outback
Cheers and enjoy your trip.

zenonie,
I was at
Innamincka two weeks ago and there were rats and mice there. A mate and I camped in our swags near some friends in a camper van. The rats and mice had a ball in the camper kitchen area but couldn't get into their sleeping area.
We had a few run around us and over us but it wasn't too bad. They got worse the longer we camped in the one spot. I think they had more rats and mice on the Common but I didn't hear too many people complaining.
We kept all our food etc. locked away from them at night and didn't have too many problems. They seemed to have a real fetish for our friends washing up detergent and left other food alone.
To sum up, they weren't a big deal. Mind you, when I had to get up in the night for a call of nature I made sure they couldn't sneak into my swag.
Regards,
Bob

Thanks mate, I'm off this morning to the races so we'll see how they are ouselves. 2 nights in a swag!! With the rats OMG! I'm in the back of a car but one person in my little group has to sleep on the ground in his swag and it ain't one of the ones you can do up all the way around either.
We'll be in a silver 80 series with Kilcowera written on it, sometimes. So say gidday if anyones who is reading this is at
Innamincka! Cheers zenonie.

Hi Zenonie, are you from Kilcowera? If so how are the rats down your way? I'm heading to
Currawinya in a week or so.
Cheers

Hi there I live on Kilcowera, there are no rats or mice here. Lots of birds and other native animals and some
wildflowers too. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some rats at
Currawinya as it has a river running through it and the rats follow rivers.
Innamincka was a fun weekend and I did not see a rat or mouse and slept very peacefully in my swag in my car. The road to Inna from Thargo only has 60 km of dirt now the rest is bitumen, there was a lot of traffic on it. Cheers Zenonie
