Stockton might be a better choice.

I think Phil is talking about the one at 12 Mile Creek just past the RTA weighbridge. It was set up as a haven for mobile homes and 5th wheelers and has progressed from there. It is right on the highway, but veeery spacious.

Avoid Tomago, it is right on the H'way in industrial area, lot's of permanent sites, no where near as good as it was 30 years ago.

Stockton is excellent. Right on beach, ferry across to Newcastle... But :-( gets very busy and peak times are booked out way in advance. Also not as many tourist sites as they once had, with the installation of cabins, and stacks of permanents. Went there every year, for many years. But it is veeeery good if you can get in, and 1 night won't be enough for you.

Plenty of good choices up at Port Stephens, and don't forget Hawks Nest just a bit further up the freeway these days.

Then again, you could always come across to Cessnock, and stay at the Valley View and take in our magnificent wineries :-) all at your doorstep.

Good luck Stan. It's a great place the Hunter Valley.

Too right, Fred

My mum used to live there permanently when it WAS good, I think it was called The Ponderosa at the time. Now it is surrounded by the industrial estate, run down (looking from the road), not a place I would recommend to a visitor to our city.

Stockton, and as others have said, many at Port Stephens are probably more suitable for a short stay, or indeed a long holiday!

Cheers, Dave

Many Many thanks , to RAG, Phil ,Fred for your input, very much appreciated,
RAG, in answer to your question, we have a daughter on the Gold Coast and a son living in Forster, in the past we have gone by car or flew, we wish now to go back to caravaning after 30years. take in the sites and relax, we have a little Jack Russell girl and wish to take her with us instead of leaving her in a kennel.
Our trip will start just before Gippsland winter and we will take it from there.
Have writen off going to Tomago, will still try pt stephens and the surrounds as suggested by all.
Many thanks again,
Good luck to all,
Stan de Man C1
