Derek over at COCIA would probably be able to help you with an answer on that.

I went into the Furphy factory in Shepparton about 5 years ago.
Had every intention of paying the top dollar price for what I thought was an Aussie made top quality product.
I looked at the ovens on display and they didn't seem to be finished as well as I had always known.
Now remember this is a $100- plus dollar camp oven we are talking about.
I asked the girl serving, Are these still made here in Shep?
She looked at me rather sheepishly and said, ummm errr!! we now have them made in China.
Needless to say I departed without buying as I could buy a Chinese one from Rays for about $30- if I wanted Chinese.

I now have a spun steel Bedourie from South Aus, much better than a cast iron oven in my opinion.

So in answer to your question, at least 5 years.

Thanks mate,
I emailed the Furphys foundry a year ago and they gave me the same answer, pity we have to have legendary icons made with cheap cast iron overseas.
You would think that these sort of products that are not massed produced could be still made in OZ, most of us would be prepared to pay a few bob more for local products, not like you are going to by to CO's in ya life
Thanks for the reply

Yeah as I said I was prepared to pay the premium for what I believed to be the best oven on the market.
Pretty disappointed when it turned out so differently.

I did give you the link in my previous post to the Bedourie site if your interested.

Cheers

Teemac.
Looking at and comparing the new (chinese) Furphy to their old originals I dont even think they sent moulds over.
A very poor, shoddy product in my opinion.
If you want an Aussie made oven have a look at the Billmans product. I have a 12" one and very pleased with it.
But I also have a small collection of the older of mainly Metters make which still get some regular use.
Also a member of COCIA, a site I can recommend to you

Thanks mike39,

I also have a few Metters and a 15 inch Furphy, just looking to find a 12 inch if I can, I dont rate the Chinese stuff at all, dont want to get sold a Furphy that looks old and is not the real deal
As mentioned earlier, I to have struggled to COCIA site a few time, I will keep trying

Thanks for your reply

If you have the time, look at garage sales or rat around junk shops, they sometimes crop up. As an old safari cook I think you need both CO's and a Bedourie, they are great for different things
