Maxi,
I have driven so many of these old dears over the years both on the surface in remote areas and underground where they really get a flogging and I have never seen this problem before.
If you can't get an answer here, you maybe able to ask the question on LCOOL.
I have a problem with my old dear. when I am on severe corrugations my horns start blowing. Solution for me is I disconnect the horns as it is to hard to chase the earth fault.
It maybe just your wiper stork or the relay You will need a wiring diagram to find the problem.
Gregory's manual #502 that is if it is a HJ75 prior to 1990.
Hope you find it but if you don't you can still use the old dear.
RA.

Thanks Rockape, I think its in the area of whatever controls the sweep of the wiper arms and then re energises the circuit after the pause. Yes it is pre 1990, 1989 actually, and of course I still use it everyday. Thanks for the manual advice.

Maxi,
I had a problem with
mine, the washers would only work when you pulled the stalk in and once the wipers started they stopped working. Got a can of contact cleaner sqiirted it into the guts of the switch and presto washers worked, also used it on the dipper switch years ago and still working today.
Might be worth a try.

I will try contact cleaner, but where would I get some? AutoParts or the like?

I have CRC brand, C O Contact Cleaner, in light blue & white can.
Hope it works but looking at your post below might be a bit more then a dirty contact.

I used to have a HJ75 troopie until recently and still have the Toyota repair manual for it.
They list the following possible causes for non functioning intermittent wipers:
Wiper control relay faulty
Wiper motor faulty
Wiring ground faulty
I forgot now where the wiper control relay is located but the picture in the manual shows it has a 4 terminal plug on the wire harness.

Thanks V8
There's a 4 pin plug on the back of the wiper motor and that could be the relay under a black plastic cover. If I have the wipers running on intermittent and grab a wiper arm at the bottom of its sweep and pull it down towards the bottom of the screen it actually goes into the delay cycle.......... and then resumes continuous wiping. sort of seems mechanical, I don't know what triggers the delay .... relay or the position of the arms?
Thanks

Ray, I never had any problems with the troopie wipers (except the blades) so I can only guess how they work.
Other wiper motor's I had apart trigger the reversing of the arms from a switch inside the motor. The manual says the troopie also switches the two speeds inside the motor.
The way the "inspect intermittent operation" is worded in my manual suggests the delay originates from the relay. It is quoted as a 4 second delay.
I can't say the relay is where you suggest, though the plugs shown in the manual are similar. I suggest you also look for the relay elsewhere, follow the wiring harness to find it - just found another page that shows relay location:
Unfortunately its shown for a left hand drive - the relay is behind the glove box, it could be also on the other side of the firewall in that vicinity.
I'm not sure how they arranged it for a RHD vehicle but I know there is a stack of relays visible once the glove box is taken out.
Good luck

Thanks again V8
That was going to be my next plan, pull the dash out and see what I can find, its a pretty easy job in these old things, I mainly want to see if there is anything that is restricting the movement of the arms.
