Just been to see the great little Aussie movie Red Dog. Tells the story of the red dog that travelled all over the Pilbara in the '70s and is based on a true story. Doug T covered it well a couple of years ago in his Sunday History spot here- thanks Doug.

As well as being an excellent movie (take plenty of tissues!) it also gives a good look at the coastal part of the Pilbara, so if you haven't been there, this gives a pretty good idea of the red dirt and the people up there.

Cheers,

Val.

Val saw it a fortnight ago. Forgot just how short and tight shorts were back then. And yes the tears rolled down my cheeks.

Great movie.

I havent seen the movie yet for reasons many Karratha-ties would know only too well! ;-)

I have many memories of red dog and his antics from back in the good old Dampier days so much has changed since back then - it will be interesting to see how true to his life the story is, having said that I have noticed and probably been guilty myself of stories which are definately in the realm of fishermans tales. :-) I wonder how many of those have carried across to the film.

Looking forward to seeing Red Dog movie sometime.

Hi Sue. If you have lived through the Red Dog years you will definately find it pretty true to life. Some scenes are a bit exagerated but overall it is a great movie. A lot of it is very authentic including the old dirt road into Dampier. Thank god we haven't got "smellavision" Do yourself a favour and go and see it. Cheers,Bob.

Wasnt that the whole point of it Toyo? Showing that the legend has expanded to larger than life? Hence the scenes of people in the pub telling ever more expansive tales of his exploits.

Loved the movie and so did my kids, but did anyone believe he REALLY hitched a ride on a bulky to Japan and back?

Hi Val

One of our sons has seen it and said it was great. I have read the book, so I know that when see the film I will have to take lots of handkerchief's, as the book had me in tears at the end.

Cheers

Me too Stephen,
The producers, when interviewed said that they ended the film very carefully.
I don't know how they portrayed the ending for the same reason as you.
I read the book which I bought there when visiting many yrs. ago.
For some reason I thought that his master used to travel on the bus until the bloke got killed, then the dog took his place.
The dog used to wait at the bus stop for his master every day then the bus driver felt sorry for him when he still kept waiting for his master at the bus stop after he was killed. . I don't think the film starts like that does it?
I read the book a very long time ago & with a large box of tissues.
Take care, safe travels.Ma.
P.S I have a bit more info on Anandale for you. Will catch you later just home from our hols camping,& have a complete dust bowl to clean & pack away.

Great movie for all the reasons above.
There is something special about Australian movies.
Another good one worth seeing is Oranges & Sunshine.
