Are the rooftop tents from ebay the same as any of the ARB, TJM or Ironman tents? Are you satisfied with the purchase?

I bought mine from a guy in Melbourne. made in South Africa, as good or better than the ARB. In fact, the ARB is made in China now i believe..Mine has been on the Patrol since April last year and air it out every few months, no cover leaks or rubbing wear on the tent.. But check the origin before you buy from anyone because increasingly these products are from China.. Michael

Mine's from ebay as well. I got the tent, awning and extension. It is the ARB Simpson 2 for all intents and purposes. It has been a while since I checked out RTT's so I don't know if the unbranded Simpson 3 is available. Mine's done a considerable amount of touring and works well for us when we don't want to tow the camper (Simpson etc)

Yeah I bout one a few years ago, it is also the same as the ARB II, one of my mates bought the genuine thing and after close scrutiny, the only difference is quite literally the sticker. Its probably traveled 30k km plus and been used over 100 times and is still in top condition.
I did find the mattress to be a bit hard so we put an egg shell foam in it as well to achieve a dual density mattress the same as swags have and it is a really good sleep.

Got mine from e-bay, ended up getting the more expensive unit at $1399 .... from NQLD.
www.flyingfishcampers.com.au
looked better and is very good quality ............. happy with the tent ...YES ...

But it was a desision made in the last week before we left for a 5 week stint, we have 3 kids, 4, 7, 11 and it was a BIG mistake, a couple of points to remember....
Once set up you CAN-NOT move your car.....
The actual "roof top" tent without the annexx is quick and easy, add the annex and it gets tricky and time consuming to set up and set down, a BIG pain in the ass ....
It is bleeding heavy, about 60kg and sitting up top, makes the vehicle to top heavy, we also have our tyres up top, no choice there so just to much weight up top .....
For us we would have been far better off with 2 seperate tents...

For just a couple it is spot on, quick set up and can fold back up with sleeping gear left in it, exactly what i hoped it would do .... annexx, a waist of time...
We are going to sell it and just buy tents for next trip...
Cheers

I got one many years ago and the quality is very questionable, the ladder is made from a very thin alloy that actually bend the first time I climb up there. The tent material is made from the same stuff as a cheap 2 man tent with a little tarp over the top. The ladder was also to short and it didn’t touch the ground due to my 2inch lift and the extra height from the roof rack. Communication for the seller was nonexistent and the unit came directly from China, it was stated in the add that it was from AU. The shipping took very long and some things that was promised to me like a new ladder never turned up.

I ended up making some mods to the ladder, that all said it’s a great little option for a quick 1/2 nights up the beach with the boys. It takes about 1 min to setup once you have the cover off. I didn’t but it for long extended trips hence the cheap option. If I was planning a long extended trip and this was going to be house for months then I would buy the best I can.
