Hi, does anyone know what the wire that hangs down at the back of the dometic fridge in the jayco hawk is? Also, if it is broken will this stop the fridge working? Has anyone had this problem before and if so, how is it best fixed and is it expensive?

Hi Jodie. Without seeing the wire it is very hard to tell you. Please get an electrician to look at it in case it is the 240v supply wire. if it is it could be very dangerous. Bob

Thanks Bob but I'm pretty sure it's not the 24v power because it's more like a tube and it's actually inside the fridge. It looks like some kind of tube or something.

If fridge isn't working and it's a tube, brass in colour, could be the gas pipe that circulates the gas around the fridge.
Cheers

Hi
It sounds to me a though it is the thermostat capillary tube [about 2mm dia/]
It should be attached to the evaporator
Look carefully @ the right hand side, you should be able to see where it was fixed

Thanks Peter, that sounds exactly like what if is. Do you know if this would stop the fridge from working all together and if it's hard/expensive to fix?

Hi Jodie
It may have just come loose
Look carefully in
the gap between the evaporator fins ,possibly the 2nd from the right
You may find that is where it should be, held in by two screws
If not there just carefuly bend it up & & you should be able to find where it was fitted
IF it is actaully broken into two pieces [tip still in place] you will need a new thermostat.
That needs to be done by a qualified fridge mechanic , you should
check for quotes
Peter

Unfortunately it is broken so sounds like we'll need to get a new thermostat...I assume this would be the reason the fridge is not working? Thanks for your help.
