Candlepower forum review
I have a pocket size 2AA 4sevens 202 lumens and it lights up the night over a good distance so the Fenix will probably be good enough for short periods as a
lighthouse backup.

Thanks Bazooka, i came across the link you have provided this morning with the review along with heaps of other reviews on all types of LED torches. Never realised there are so many.

I'm no sure which model of Fenix torch you are referring to but my brother uses fenix torches and they are very good quality and have a good name in the industry. The 3 most important things to look for in high power led torches (i'm assuming you are talking led, not hid) is beam profile, user interface and runtime. Some high power torches are very floody and a 2000 lumen torch would struggle to light up 100m away but everything close in is
bright as the sun. Others throw a very tight "hotspot" a long way, up to 1km but with no spill light at all are really only good for shooters etc. A good general purpose led beam profile has good throw and good spill. User interface can make some modern torches a chore to use, if you have to scroll through 3 lighting levels then 2 types of strobe etc just to turn the thing on or off. Some have a memory and will turn back on at the same setting it was turned off at last time. Some have a 2 second memory in that if you press the button again within 2 seconds it will change light level, but after 2 seconds if you press button it will turn off. Some turn on at the lowest setting, some the highest. The user interface can make a torch enjoyable and effective or just be a pain. Lastly a lot of very high power led torches have an extremely short runtime like 45 mins on a set of batteries which makes them not practical. I have done a lot of research over the years and tried a lot of torches and my current favourite that I am using is the Wolf Eyes sea lion hunter. 1000 lumens, throws to 400m with good spill, hours and hours of runtime, small and compact and good user interface. Also waterproof to 100m. Comes with rechargeable batteries and charger, belt holster, lanyard, rifle stock tape swithch and aspheric lens (if you want to use for shooting) for $280. Brighter than any spotlight I have ever had and small enough to fit in your pocket.

I don't know much about the tk70 but i'm sure you will find all you need to know on candlepowerforums if you do a search. I would think if it's Fenix it will be a good thing. How much are they? Take a look at Wolf Eyes website aswell. Very nice torches. Rechargeable batts and charger included in all models, otherwise add on $100 to other brands.

Seems like a great torch Rod.
Who are you leaning toward as a supplier?
Is it only me or do others collect torches also :))
Seems to be a case of always looking for something better!!

I have a few. Modern high powered tactical torches are just amazing. Most people do not believe the output till they see it. My little Wolf Eyes is brighter than the high beams on the cruiser. Jet Beam, Fenix, and Olight are also great brands. Led Lenser is a rip off and over rated in my opinion.
