Hi campers, just wondering if anyone has any info on any problems with the gearboxes in 2011 colorado /dmax. I noticed a distinct rattle in 1st/2nd when idling under no load, like when you are crawling along a bush track, same in low range too, it really gets amplified if you go thru a drive thru as it bounces off the walls, everyone would turn around and look at us. noise has been there for some time but as we dont live near a dealer and there are no other noises,I let it go till next service. The gearbox works fine and is quiet except for those times. I took it into holden for its 20000km service and mentioned it ,here I am thinking they will tell me they cant hear it, but to my surprise, they rang me and said they have spoke to holden and said they have ordered a brand new gearbox for me.I asked what the problem was and said they didnt know, holden doesnt want it stripped and inspected, they are putting in a newie.
Anyone got any ideas as to what it could be, have searched internet and can only find old posts on a 4th gear gutter rail issue.
Thanks in advance for your info
ED

I have a 2008 Colorado with the same noise, have had the noise for about 10000k now and had 3 different mechanics have had a look at it and no answers, last mechanic changed the gearbox oil and it was good for a few days, noise is back now though, keen to know what causes it also.

I have had a similar problem in my 03 Rodeo since forever!!! Does the noise go away when the clutch is depressed??? assuming you have a clutch.
Mine does. Some people think it may be a thrust bearing. I am waiting for the clutch to go and worry about it then. Currently 230K and still going.
Cheers
Mark

Hi mp, definitely not the clutch, it sounds as if it could even be in the transfer box

Mark I have that same noise as
well had it from day one, very common apparently. Holden replaced clutch, thrust bearing and done some mod to the box and the noise is still there and disappears when it warms up, this new noise is very different and agree Edwin sounds like it's coming from the transfer case.

I have a 2006 diesel rodeo and it has a rattle occasionally when you let out the clutch in neutral and let it idle, a lot of reading (and a trip to the mechanic) has had be come to the conclusion that it is the clutch springs apparently, and not anything to be worried about, according to my mechanic. I also have had a rattle from the gear box/transfer case region, however I only manage to get this in reverse in low range and occasionally when in high range, but only ever with the transfer case locked. As others have mentioned, this noise has been there since I got the car and i've been told by the mechanic (my holden dealer) that it is nothing to worry about.
Lachy.
