Anyone using Memory Map with Hema Maps on their 3G iPad2? If so do you like it? Has anyone done a long trip using it?

Sure have, it worked really
well on a 5 week trip up into Arnhem Land from
Melbourne. I had the iPad mounted on a windscreen suction cup mount. It came off once, on the way to Big Red, but no other drama to report.
I didn't open a paper map for the whole trip.
Make sure before you leave
home you download all of the maps you will be using.

We also used the iPad to back up our photos each day, play music in the car (through the FM tuner) and take a few videos overtaking road train and river crossings.
From memory, we always had it plugged into a power source, either 12v socket or inverter, so the battery stayed
well charged.

I bought them through the Hema Maps through the Digital Store in Memory Map. Not sure how you would do it if you have them separately.

That doesn't read
well. In Memory Map, there's a Digital Map Store option. I bought the Hema Maps license, Australian Topo and the Hema 4Wd maps.

Thanx Michael, I understand, and yep it'd be easier if you did it thru memory maps etc but its plain silly I reckon and a ripoff if you have the software and just want to employ a different medium. I use hema via Ozi, so should I be expecting too much to be able to use it via MM on the iPad? probably

The only problem I have had with the ipad and Memory Maps is that some car chargers won't charge the ipad very
well and it gradually goes flat even while on the charger. The GPS uses a fair bit of juice as does the screen being on all day. Make sure you buy a car charger that specifies IPAD not just iphone/ipod. Otherwise it will show you around all day and conk out at night :-)

All of them do that provided the ipad has the gps chip and therefore the 3G model? Is that what you meant?
