When rebuilding power steering pumps etc normaly use power steering fluid to lube seals. I use PBR rubber grease for brake cylinder rebuilds, as it doesnt affect rubber seals. Normal grease atacks rubber.

G'day Toohey

I use MolyKote 111 Valve & O ring lube in many similar maintenance applications. Its made by Dow Corning. You can buy it at BSC Australia. Thats Bearing Service Centre.

Cheers

I don't know about now, but rubber grease eg castrol girling red rubber GRR, used to be a castor oil bassed grease rather than a mineral oil bassed grease.

I don't know that too many people use GRR these days, the considered opinion is to use whatever fluid is used in the system as an assembly lubricant.

Spot on Bantam regarding using what ever fluid is used in the system as a lubricant.

Sometimes though you just need a bit of grease to hold the seal in place during assembly and the fluid won't do the trick.

Rubber grease won't swell your seals unlike ordinary grease which will.

Fab.
