Hi all,

Passing through SW WA and the flies are driving us mad. Looking for a retailer of Natures Botanical Rosemary and Cedarwood in the area. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hi Royce,

We already have fly nets but there's something tainted about viewing this beautiful scenery through a fine mesh gauze for the next 6 months. Even a fly net doesn't stop them from crawling all over your arms and legs. The girlfriend counted 20 on my back yesterday. Is it possible that we're parked near a nest of these things? Other people don't seem to be struggling quite so much.

I'd love to see if that nice sounding stuff you are after works..

Only 20?????? Mate you mustn't have experience a BAD fly spot yet!!

They don't have nests. Bushflies breed in cow dung and rotting grass. It's to do with the season. As I understand it, it's the females after your sweat.

The sweat contains protien that they need for reproduction...

Royce,

Does that stuff work??? Does it ever!!!

In over 20+ years on the Diamantina, it was the only "healthy" thing that kept the flies away. We would use UV cream as a "foundation", then smear this stuff on top. I only used a smear across under the eyes, and down the nose, to give hours of relief.

"20 on my back" Ha Ha. Agree with you Royce, that's only the advance party, if they're really thick.

Vaseline rubbed under the eyes is good too, but they still try to land, because there's no deterrent, and that's what annoys many people.

Bob.

Seen it all, Done it all.
Can't remember most of it.

Hallo Simon.
I am currently in Tauranga, New Zealand but know Margaret River quite well as my kids live there and I am based there over winter.
Try the Hemp co on the main road - 133 Bussel highway ph 08 9758 8600.
They have lots of natural products and remedies.

good luck

cheers, Case

Thanks Case. Your kids are saints if they put up with these flies. Are there flies in NZ??? We're considering a change of location.

I'll give Hemp Co a ring tomorrow first thing.

Hoi Lancie.
There is a shop on station road that sells horse gear. don't know the name of the shop but it is directly across from the home hardware entrance on Station Road, Margaret River.
Station Road is in the centre of town. runs parallel to the main Busselton highway. At the main intersection in town drive towards the Ocean and first left.

And Simon.
Margs has nothing on some other places in Oz when it comes to flies.
No flies in Antarctica though.

Cheers, Case, NZ

I would give "Desert Dwellers" in Alice Springs a call and see if the one they make is available near you.

We have seen the "Desert Dwellers" product in many out doors and camping shops.

It's the only thing that works and keeps flies at bay in the desert..... leaves the commercial stuff for dead.

Desert Dwellers dont actually make it. They just sell it under their own label.

cheers everyone!

We found it at Saddleworld Busselton

It's at
Shop 12, 115 Strelly St.
Busselton WA 6280
Telephone: 08 9751 3344
Facsimile: 08 9751 3322
Email: busselton@saddleworld.com.au

However since leaving Yallingup we've not had a cause to use it yet. However it sounds like we'll find the need somewhere else along the way. I look forward to it.

There's a reason you Ozzie's are so nice - you have the patients of saints growing up with these things!
