Norm,

You've given us no information so no-one can discuss or sympathise with you.

How old is it? What model? New from a shop or near new, second-hand? Did you do everything Engel want you to do to register your purchase and activate your warranty? Have you kept your receipt? Was it a factory second with limited warranty?

Etc
Etc

I dont think there is any legal requirement to register a purchase or activate a warranty under australian laws.
A receipt showing where and when it was purchased is all that is required to make a warranty claim.

Companies wanting you to fill out such paperwork do so to obtain your name and address so it can be used to compile consumer information and possibly to bombard you with junk mail.

Hi Shaker

Exactly that, we had a case a few years ago re a similar issue and the customer went off how crap the Engel was. When the Tech took the back off of the fridge, the power supply was cooked. Further investigations showed that it was run off of a very cheap $150 hardware store purchased generator.

The Tech then requested that they bring in there generator so he could test it and it spiked at around 600 volts from memory, yet he still was blaming the fridge....

How dumb are some people.

Cheers

Hi Norm

Like the others have said above, you have given us no details of what happened, what was the power supply, how old the fridge is etc.

As far as Engel warranty being crap, you must be joking. They have an Australia wide 3 year warranty, which covers parts and labour for any problems that arise from the fridge from faulty components from new. Any warranty, regardless of what brand of fridge is void in the event of user cased issues, like using a cheap non inverter generator , miss use by the customer etc.

If it was under 3 years and a genuine fault of the fridge, there would be no charge what so ever.

Yeah well my Engel is 12 years old nearly always stays in the back of my Prado. Its Been to the cape around most of Qld Nsw and Vic yet still somehow keeps on keeping on. I have had one problem and that was the fan motor got noisy and Engel fixed that ASAP and after 9 years of steady use.

If that is cap (sic) then Ill had it anyway

Like you Miichael, I've a 12 year old Engel that's been everywhere and never missed a beat. One of the best and most reliable things I've ever bought. ( Just hope I haven't jinxed it now by saying that LOL ).

Maybe EO should change the rules with the recent posts naming companies and bad service. If you going to post something like this, you need to provide all relevant details as requested by most replies here. If not, then post is removed. People need to be fair to the companies they name and provide proper details otherwise they have little value and strength to the complaint.
BTW I have always thought Engel was pretty spot on with quality and service.

Hi ,
I also have had a good run from the engle. Had an old yellow model for 30 years, always sat on the r/train floor. Finally caught alight burnt in a bush fire along with the truck.
Didn't bother with the warranty. Bought a beaut new one.

Hi
All I can say is
[a]EngelS have a very good reliabity
[b]Failures are very very rare on 240v
Transformers are almost indestructable if treated correctly
But nothing can withstand some of the elcheapo generators on the market
I too would suspect this is the cause in this case

Having had a "young" Engel break down whilst travelling (< 2 years), it's not a nice feeling. Originally going away with our 39 litre almost 27 year old Engel unfortunately ended up being a little too power hungry for free camping so we left it home for our big trip.

Deciding to bite the bullet and buy two more, yep that's right, two Engels - one 39 litre as a fridge and a 19 litre as a freezer, imagine our disappiontment when the 19 litre was turned off for about two weeks whilst it was still in our car and failed to cool again when switched back on. From what I've read on this forum others have also experienced similar problems.

Whilst now having arrived home, we're almost too scared to turn either of the two young ones off in case they don't work again as they'd be close to running out of warranty.

I guess the only consolation is that we have the reliable 27 year old workhorse in the cupboard as a back up.
