Has anybody seen or had any experience with these diff breathers from Locktup
link? From whay I gather, they have an expandable bellows that allows the air in the diff to expand and contract without letting in anything from outside. If they work, they look liks a nice simple idea to me. No need to run tubing anywhere.

Hi Yabbo,
In principal they seem like a pretty neat idea. My only concern, at 12cm in length, what is to protect them from getting ripped out by a stick etc when travelling through scrub?

Would like to hear from anyone who has used them.

regards,

Very Interesting!

As above, I'd be concerned regarding the shielding of them but I think I can solve that one as well.

If you use some rubber tubing to extend all breathers to the same high place and all Tee'd to a cheap fuel filter to the end, will it be any dearer than the ones you are considering. This way you only have one place to check if it is needed.

This way you can also feed it with a LPG regulator running off you compressor to give a positive 1-2 psi if needed for water crossings or if you are parked in a flood situation. This can save a large amount of dollars not having to change oils in the vital bits.

True. But these are only $50 or so. I figure they are a lot easier to install.

It sounds like you are sold on them but just running some tube to the fire wall and the filter for all components has to be far cheaper than $50.

Have you priced fuel line tubing lately? Yes, there are other types of tubing available but they either swell when exposed to oil or become brittle and break.

They are an interesting concept and well worth exploring as one possible solution but certainly not the only solution.
