G'day, have had one of these and all I can say is run away very fast, don't touch it...................

Try and get a 4.2 diesel, turbo or n/a, or even look at 4.2, 4.5 on gas if you want a patrol.

Good luck, John

I also had one for a year, I agree with John, struggles to pull itself let alone a van . I tried to pull a camper trailer and had to open the door and put the right leg out and give it a push to set off from standstill most of the time

I also owed one for a couple of years, while not towing it was terrific comfortable, went anywhere, easy to see out of, but hook the boat to it and it changed it was hard to keep it motivated very slow on hills and very hard to stop going down hills hope this helps, oh the boat i was towing was a four and a half meter half cab.

Yep give it a miss and go the 4.2td Patrol. Do not go for the 3ltr grenade.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

I have a 97 GQ one and love it!!
Sure its no powerhouse...but it does come with a gearbox fitted.
However it is not exactly as it came off the showroom floor.
I have basically unstrangled it and it goes heaps better now.Fitted a ZD30 aircleaner and a snorkel...also trashed original exhaust in favour of a 60 mm straight thru one. For towing I installed a 3-row Metal radiator. Nothing has been done to the Injector pump apart from a rebuild a while back due to crook fuel..and Turbo is standard. So basically it now breathes like it was meant to...and I tow a 1.5 tonne camper trailer with it all over OZ. The last rip was to the high country after Xmas...and it was fine towing around the mountains there. Sure I had to use the gearbox...getting back to second on some of the steeper stuff...but it was a holiday ...not a race.
So far ...in 3 and a bit years...and nearly 80000 k...it has been reliable and trustworthy.
However...if your the sort of person who likes to power over hills in fifth ...then forget it...as it aint the truck for you.
Driven within its capabilities...and serviced and looked after properly ...it will do the job asked of it.

Cheers Keith
Nothin is ever the same once I own it ...........
