What sort of hitch?

I just bought a 1983 Roma poptop; around 15 foot. When I got the safety cert done, they said I must replace the current hitch. I'm towing it behind a 2012 Kia Sorento, with a new Hayman Reese 50mm towball. What sort of hitch should I go for?

HI Tim
I dont think they are talking about the tow ball they may be talking about the tow bar as it my not be correct size for the weight you are towing

Look up the vehicle manual and look at the towing and see what the size of towbar you have and then look at the weight of the caravan .

Go back to the people who sold you the towbar and tell them you must have a heaver towbar

Thanks snailbait,

No, it must be something on the van as they didn't have the Kia with them while doing the safety cert. They actually said to replace the tow coupling, which I assume was the hitch. He said just undo 4 bolts and bolt a new one on. I've been looking at the McHitch and presume there are many other options.

Did he give any reason? The only thing I can think of is that a van of that age may have an imperial sized coupling (1?") and the ball on your tow bar is metric (50 mm.) This does not make for a good fit.

The forum did not accept the fraction symbol - 1 & 7/8 inch size coupling.

Hi again,

Reason given was that it old and tired. It is a good fit, as I towed it behind the intended tow vehicle to the mechanics. So, fit is good, ?? Not sure what else it could be other than old and tatty.
