Hi All,
We are endeavoring on our big trip around Australia next year, and will be taking our 4 year old with us and all going we will be taking 12 months to do it. Just wondering if any other explorozers have done the trip recently and if there are any suggestions on good
free camp spots around oz.
We have the camps Australia guide and use it often, but sometimes first hand experience is better than a note on a page.
Will be taking our camper trailer, so camper trailer friendly site would be needed, but we are self sufficient so dont need power, water,
toilet etc.
thanks for your advice in advance.
Cheers,
Pat

Hi Pat
If you have mobile internet, keep in touch as you go and ask about specific areas you are approaching re good free camps. Otherwise your question is too broad.
I also have tips on how to find your own camping spot on my website; in my profile. We tend to find our own, and resort to camps books or websites as a last resort, or sometimes
check ahead of time in case there are any really good ones off the beaten track in that area. However the best knowledge of special
places comes from forums when i say where we are heading.
Motherhen.

Hi Pat,
We did the trip April last year in a camper trailer and did not require power, water, or
toilet either. It's a great way to travel.
We found that there were heaps of wonderful free
camp sites. Our source was mainly from Camps Australia, the internet & word of mouth.
Funnily enough, because we were completely self sufficient we often used Camps Australia in a kind of reverse logic, if I can put it that way. By this I mean sites that were highly recommended for their facilities we avoided like the plague and had some absolutely wonderful camping experiences.
Internet while travelling is a great thing too. We found the Telstra prepaid stick system pretty good.
You're obviously starting to ask questions & research now, which is a smart move. Get a file going so as to keep the information at your finger tips and you will do just find.
Cheers - Wayne D

Oops I might add just a comment about paid camping.
We loved the
free camping but at times paid camping such as a caravan park worked for us and maybe you should factor it into your plans.
We found it:
* allowed us to have a secure site to explore the area in our vehicle without security concerns about the camper.
* gave us that lovely hot shower and a chance to wash & dry the clothes.
* meet up with other campers to exchange information and socialise.
* recharge the batteries (CT & humans)
For us it worked out at about 2 days out of 7 in paid camping. And we were pretty happy with that.

thanks Wayne, we tried a vodafone prepaid stick and couldnt get coverage in the city so have ditched that one, will look at the telstra stick closer to leaving.
We also use paid camping so I can catch up on washing etc if no laundry mat available, and also to top up on water. Agree with the hot shower, nothing like a nice long hot shower.
I have started a file and hence why I asked the question on here to
check out
places that are a must see, could see, or should avoid.
thanks for the advice
