Hi
Last year i did some damage to the rear bar on the Ot track so i finally removed it to get it repaired and found the cross member on the chassis was being torn away by the tow bar. I have never towed any thing heavy before only my
camp trailer i have taken it to our local specialist and he said that he had never seen any thing like it before it must have taken a lot of down force to do this much damage.
Has any one else had this problem before ?????

Hi Tazzee, I had the rear cross member crack in the 4 cnrs about 1 inch long. My problem was caused by the fact that the tow bar installed, when we bought the veh new, was not tensioned up properly and the weight of the tow ball was taken on the cross member.
Cut a long story short no warranty as i had a WDH and toyota recommend using one but beacause they dont make one they denied warranty as i had used non genuine.
Wasnt impressed but as we had to continue our trip, i removed the tow bar , drilled a small hole at the end of the cracks, put a thin cutting disc thru the crack to allow penertration of weld, had it welded and have done 50,000 k since with a 3 ton van and no further cracking. Can send pics if you have email address. Regretfully not a member.

Yes had similar cracks on an older landcruiser but mainly caused by a dodgy tow hitch that was not manufactured correctly -
well that would be me when I was a lot younger and a lot poorer using a
home made tow hitch.
Any way it did crack the same and I had it welded up and changed the tow hitch. Years later the cruiser was still going and not problems.
