Coming to
Marree down the
Oodnadatta Track and wanting to get to the
Strzelecki Track but don’t want to go all the way to
Lyndhurst, then back up. Scanning through my Auslig maps I see there is a series of tracks that run from just north of
Marree on the
Birdsville Track past the Russell
Dam, the Bullinine
Dam, Saltaparuna
Waterhole,
Lake Arthur and comes out just SW of Murnpeowie. Are these reasonable tracks. My definition of a track is two wheel ruts, vegetation in the middle and close in on both sides. My main concern is DEEP washouts or many sandhills making it slow going. We would be pulling an off-road camper. Assume the area hasn’t seen too much rain recently. Anyone know this area or the tracks in the area and what they are like around July? I guess an average speed 20-40 km/h or faster would be the go. As the Strze and Ood tracks look almost as good as what we drive on everyday I imagine these will be fairly good as tracks go. Hope someone can help. TIA ps posting this on both ExplorOz and Overlander.

Grant,
I think you will find that the tracks you mention are station tracks, that is, for use by station owners ONLY (if prior permission is not given).
Unfortunately, it is a big problem that maps show all these tracks and people then believe they are for general use. The Oodna and Strz tracks are generally good and as they are the roads that are designated for use you would be much safer using these.
