Question: Globalsat BU-353 Mouse GPS

Does this unit take the place of a gps . I have a Garmin 60 hand held - no map capacity - I have map source & base camp loaded on a laptop as well as Garmin's Topo Australia & NZ v3 maps registered on a DVD & shonky maps . Can I replace the gps with the BU-353, Is this all compatible ?

Nick b. The BU-353 is the satellite receiver for what you plug it into. It receives the GPS signal for the receiver. Mine is connected to my laptop.

Short answer Nick is you need,

Laptop/GPS unit > GPS reciever > appropriate Application to process the data > Maps.

Investigate your local GPS - mapping supplyer and have a talk to them show them what you have and they can inform you of your options. Then you can move foward.

Nick,
Yes you can replace the Garmin with the BU-353 but I am not sure if the map source with operate with a BU353 I believe it needs to talk to a Garmin device but I am not really sure. I used to have MapSource but that was a long time ago.
