Mounting solar regulator

Hey just wondering if there is any issue with mounting a solar regulator directly onto one of those black battery boxes?

I want to mount the regulator as close as possible to the battery as I'm aware that this is the most efficient method, however I require the set up to still be portable so mounting to the battery box seems to be the most practical option, just not sure if this will create any problems.

Any help is appreciated.

G'day Simon
Mounting the reg on the battery box is a good place because it is close to the battery.
If it will fit in the gaps of the lid design it would be unobtrusive and not get knocked during transport.

Just make sure your panel feed wires are a good twin core about 6mm with 4.5mm dia copper cores. This will minimize VD between panel and regulator and also reg to battery posts. Even a little bit of voltage drop will cause a large % of loss because the difference in voltage of panel to reg to battery isn't much.

Is the regulator waterproof ?

Perhaps, look at a waterproof one like the Sunkeeper 12 or similar.
