The Kimberley thats where!

Starting to get excited and the countdown is now on. A night doesn't go by when I don't read the posts. It seems by the questions that everyone is getting ready for the winter (dry season) travellng season. My family is off for our second adventure in July having 9 weeks to travel from Victoria to the Kimberly and the top end. (we did Cape York in 2010). What's everyone else doing this year?

Hi Wheretonext,

We (husband and I) are headed to Mungo, Kinchega and Mutawintji N Pks in Western NSW then up to Corner Country and beyond...Innamincka and places in Queensland not yet determined.
I have been reading explorers journals and studying maps and other books for months...and can't wait to see the amazing country in the interior again.
Taking camera, drawing materials, hiking boots...
This route is dependant on weather and road conditions as we are towing a van.
Hope to be away around 8 weeks but not leaving for a while yet.

Enjoy your trip to the Kimberly...it's a part of Australia we have not yet seen...maybe next year.

Regards,

Heather

Hi Tone and Hev,

that'd be a good time to head out to The Corner.
It might be cool so take warm gear. It's a great part of the world.

Fen at the Cameron Corner Store's a real character. Allow at least two to poke around the area and then spend some time in Tibooburra. It's a really good town with quality people.

Try not to rush it.

Have a good time,
Steve

Hi Wheretonext,

Hubbie and I have been planning our trip up the centre, Darwin, Kimberley, up to Cape Leveque and then down the west coast, cross the Nullabor and finally back home to Vic. Have 4 months to complete. Counting down the days. Might see you up there.

Cheers

On the way up to Cape Leveque can I suggest you turn left not long after you leave the black stuff and head to James Price Point - you will know where the turn off is by the tent city set up by the Gas expansion protest group (stop and chat to them)

JPP is a great spot

One of the better spots I have camped at during my trip - only about 5 spaces on the cliff edge - stayed there a few days

After a conference at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden (great place) in mid August we will head for the Painted Desert, north of Coober Pedy for a good look. Then maybe down the Ood Track and up the Strz T to have another look at Innamincka (we loved it so much last July but had to get out in case the track closed) then perhaps Corner Country and Mutawintji.

Hoping for a good summer to spend a week or so at the beach after last (non)summer.

Happy travels everyone.

G'dayW2N,

We're off for the gulf for three and a half months leaving beginning of August. Polishing the fishing gear as I type. Planning a fairly direct drive to Darwin and a liesurely trip via the gulf back to Cairns stopping all stops

Kind regards

29 July we head off with another two couples.

Leave the NSW Central Coast and head to Hungerford. Through Thargomindah to Noccundra Pub. Up to Boulia by Bedourie or Diamantina NP. Cross the Plenty to The Alice. Restock and cross the Gary Junction Rd and Kidson Track to 80 Mile Beach the Barnhill Station.

Visit Broome, through Cape Leveque, Derby and a few weeks on the Gibb River Road, including Kalumburu. Up to Wyndham and Kununurra and head down the Tanami Hwy back to Alice.

Still not 100% sure what we do from there to Birdsville but we have options.

After Birdsville we'll spend a week dawdling back home so we can go back to work.

Can't wait.

Hi Wheretonext

This one will make you laugh, for our big trip this year we're heading to Melbourne. Wife and kids have never been there and for the past five years we've done remote outback trips each year. Planning to spend a couple of weeks driving down from Qld. Should be nice and quiet as everybody else will be heading North.

Any tips on a good caravan park on a train or tram line to the City. I couldn't face driving in all that city traffic.
