Hi, we are looking for somewhere to stay for a night or two in Bourke in early July. Have seen on the forum a referral for May's Bend camping ground but it was from quite a few years ago. Has anyone stayed there recently & is it suitable for an on road van. Any other suggestions as to where to stay would be appreciated. Thanks Rachael

I'll second that.
It can be very crowded in the Tourist season, but they squeeze you in amongst the rest. Cheers P&J

+ 4. We have stayed there a couple of times and it was very good. Nice green grass after weeks of dusty camping

Mays Bend is an unofficial camp spot on the Darling River and access is via a black soil track through some goolgyes.
I have camped there a couple of times and really enjoyed the spot with some fishing and walking. However it is not the place to be if there is any chance of rain.
Co-ordinates are. 30 02 23.9S 146 01 25.7E for a google look.
If in doubt stay at the Kidman Caravan Park Nth Bourke where you can leave the van and explore the area. You can go to the tourist shop and get a Key for Mt. Oxley where the views of the surrounds are great with a nice picnic area just near the top.

Have been to both Kidman and May's Bend. Nothing more I can add to the above comments, other than Kidman's is excellent. Nothing out at May's Bend other than nothing.

I lie the "nothing other than nothing" except I'd like to add that there is mud out there too. We were out there in July last year, and it rained overnight, the 3 soft roaders with caravans decided they'd stay at May's bend another night for it to dry out, we decided to get out of there incase it rained again, lets just say that it was very interesting, for a flat road that mud sure is fun...

Thanks all, the Kidmans Camp CP was my other option. It might be the place to go.
