Hi all,

Does anyone know what the current road conditions are like from Gregory Downs to Adel’s Grove (or what they may be like in July)? Would this section be suitable for a large tandem off road van and Landcruiser?

Thanks for replies.

Cheers

Can't weak of current conditions, but yes no problems, the road is used by large mining trucks from the Century Zinc mine.

Enjoy...

Generally the road from Gregory Downs to the mine entrance is in good nick, after the mine entrance, just drive to the conditions.

Some people take ordinary road vans and large motorhomes in that way, so your offroad van should have no issues. The key thing is not to be tempted to go too fast, especially after the mine turnoff - even if the road seems really good. There will be dips where wet season little creeks have been smoothed out by the graders. If you go into these too fast, the downward pressure spreads the tyre tread apart - enough to allow sharp stones to pierce the tyre.

Thanks to all who responded - thats been helpful and given us the confidence to do this trip.
FRom what I've read its certainly worth the effort to get there - hireing a canoe for a paddle up the gorge looks fantastic..
We will let our tyres down of course and drive to the road conditions.
Cheers
