A comment/sugestion/question all rolled into one.

Love the site, in particular this forum, the wealth of knowledge to be had is great.

At work we have a a web page that displays new documents posted to our intranet, that page offers each user the ability to set the time period they would like to see and it remembers the settings (using cookies) For example I can set it to show me every document added to the page (newest first) from only the last 2 days, 7 days, 14 days or 30 days.

Currently on this forum a post from a month ago would be 'buried' way down the page list, if an answer is put on it today, only the people 'suscribed' to that post will see it.

The advantage of running a time enabled search system (in conjunction with the entire forum as it is) is that if someone answers or comments on a post from a month ago, and I have the time search facility enabled, then it will be placed back on 'my' list of current posts as being 'new' in whatever time period I have selected.

I am not a geek and have no idea how hard that would be to incorporate, but, can a similar ability be applied to this forum?

Dennis, forum messages can be sorted by post date or response date. Have a look just under the search options.I may be mad but I'm not crazy

Dennis - David here not Michelle,

You can already do time searches using the start date and end date search fields. Just enter a date (or use the little calander tool - icon next to the date selection boxes) say yesterday and the system will run a sort on all posts including replies that were lodged since the date you enter. So put in 7 days ago and you will see every post that was either lodged or replied to in the last 7 days.

Note the active post list is 1 month worth of posts so a 1 month time search is the enitre active list.

You can also do a sort by Post Reponse date. This will sort the entire forum by response date. So in this case a post that is say on page 15 if it was replied to today will be shown somewhere near the beginning. You have to also remember that the system recieves around 20-30 new posts per day with over 120 replies and about 150 followups each day. So the fully active list is at least the first two pages.

So you can see that we do already have time search (implemented by date at the moment) enabled in the system. ExplorOz

Hello again,

Gee I forgot the Membership plug. If you are a member the system remembers when you last logged in and will automatically show you all posts an replies since your last logon. This is available from the members My Profile screen.

I have been working to add this to understand the time searching as well so member will be able to see everything since the last logon date and time. This will help for those members that logon several times a day. This feature will only be available to members so if you use the forum a lot and want the easiest way to see everything since you last logged onto the system then MemberShip is the answer.

See MemberShip Application in the Members tab at the top of the screen, for more information.Regards
