Colson 1 was spudded at 00.00 hours on the 20th November 1978 by Beach Petroleum. The
well was drilled by Richter Drilling Company, using theirRig No 6, a National 100. A total depth of 2432.3 metres was reached at 22.00 hours on Saturday 9th December 1978.
Following logging by Schlumberger and a velocity survey by Velocity Data Pty Ltd, the
well was plugged and abandoned as a dry hole. The Rig was released at 7.00 am on Wednesday 13th December 1978.
Water for the drilling activities was from a
bore that was drilled in August and September 1978 at a depth of 164 metres, while water for the Camps workers was trucked in from
Oodnadatta.
