Griffith was named after Arthur Griffith, the NSW Minister for Public Works from 1910 to 1915. The town was designed by Walter Burley Griffin, the renowned American architect who also designed
Canberra and the neighboring town Leeton. It is set amongst a fertile backdrop of vinyards, and orchards and because of the development of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Scheme in the early 1900's, the region hosts an abundance of agricultural, horticultural and processing industries. Griffith boasts a rich blend of cultures and traditions, which is evident in its vibrant, cosmopolitan lifestyle. Griffith’s Italian
heritage lives on in its passion for good food and wine, and the town’s calendar of events features everything from food and wine festivals to world music and dance.
