Burke and Wills camped here 20/11/1860 - 4/12/1860. They had finally reached the
Cooper Creek. They decided to establish a Depot here. While they rested, Burke and Brahe made some trips to see if they could find evidence of Sturt or Leichhardt's tracks on previous exploration in the area. Burke was not a very good bushman and would get easily lost so in the end he asked Wills to do further distance exploration. Wills traveled 110
miles north. At night the camels took off and Wills and McDonough walked back to
camp in blistering heat. Having set up the Depot, it was found plague rates forced them to move down stream and ultimately create the new depot at
the Dig Tree.
