Burke and Wills camped here on 8/1/1861. There was
water available. Today they are called the Diddiboo Channels. Have crossed the Tropic they also noticed a change in vegetation with sandy earth and small pebbles, and a change in climate. Whilst it was very hot, there was humidity as
well. We know this as the onset of the monsoon or wet season. When they left early in the morning, they walked barely 50 yards and came upon the Burke River which they followed all the way to
Boulia as we know it today.
