Velvety crimson flower heads are a striking sight in the bush or along roadsides. Tufted plant up to 1m tall when flowering. Leaves are strap-like and erect, to about 40cm. Flower heads extend beyond the leaves and are covered with short dark red hairs. Flowers when open are green. Grows in deep sand.
Flowering start in September and ends in December.
Identification
The main flower colour is red. Flower heads covered with a mat of blood-red hairs. Flowers green with 6 petals.
Uses
Widely used in horticulture.
