I've recently come into possession of a 2nd hand RC1180. It's about 5 years old and looks to be in pretty good nick.

It cools brilliantly on 240v - down to -15º, but on gas it sits arounds +9º. Ambient temp is is 29º.

I've done the usual things - ran for 48 hours on 240v and have the unit perfectly level in a shaded spot.

Should I look at getting it serviced, or is this as good as the fridge gets?

Thanks

At that ambient temp, it will definitely go much lower. Could be a gas blockage or flow rate not quite right....would be worth getting it checked out.

Gas out-performs the other modes in 3 ways - must be a snag with the flame function - a speck of dust in the lines when connecting is all it needs (the jet hole is microscopic) - if you can clean out the jet and lines you'll probably be right (but you might need a specialist service).

Most likely the gas jet needs cleaning or the gases in the fridge it self need a goo shake up.

I too have had this issue in the past. Turned out to be dust and cobwebs etc on the burner itself. Have a look at the flame, should be small, neatly shaped and blue. If it is odd shaped and or yellow tinged, could be a blocked jet, blocked air inlet, or a dirty burner. Clean all carefully. Also check the chimney for blockages or crud disrupting the heated airflow through the boiler.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their replies. I cleaned the flue, burner and jet and now the fridge is getting below -10º in 30º ambient.
