DC &
We are planning a road trip -
Cairns to Mt Isa -
Birdsville Track and back
home. Has anyone had any experience on this great piece of Australia?

DC &
Unless you are flying then it certainly be a road trip.
There are many things to see and experience with regard to the natural landscape.
The
Birdsville trk is not sealed but most of the previous is.
If near
Normanton and down to
Cloncurry and The Isa, make sure you have the utmost respect for roadtrains if you haven't had previous experience with them.
Despite being very aware of them we were nearly killed by one at the causeway crossing of the
Flinders River where oncoming visibility is limited when travelling south.
By being aware you get to continue your sightseeing journey.
PS Are you towing or not. Perhaps type of vehicle and fuel type will also help others with their info in replies.
All the best in your travels.

Hi DC,
Not sure what you want to know. Many people on this site will have done that trip in one way or another. Any
well prepared vehicle will be fine, its great country with heaps to see. Apart from the Mt Isa to
Cairns leg (which would all be sealed anyway) we did it in 2011 and wrote some
blogs about it - click on the
Blogs tag beside our signature. If you put
Birdsville Track into the search facility at the top RH corner of the page you will also get access to lots of info.
Cheers,
Val
