Can anyone confirm if the Bridle Track between Bathurst and Hill End has reopened? Thanks Pete

Still closed due to the landslide. Probably will be for ever.

In NSW everything that closes seems to stay closed. Look at Stockton Beach, closed to you and I but not the tour companies, money talks. Whereas here in Victoria where we have a MOI (Memorandum of Understanding) with the land managers tracks cannot be closed without consultation with FWDV (Four Wheel Drive Vic). In fact there are moves to open previously closed tracks. Hence "Victoria the place to be"

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story - Stockton is open - just the camping area has been closed while the area repairs.

So you can drive on the beach - big deal. From Worimi Conservation Land site "All dunes, back-beach and swale areas between the Lavis Lane and Gan Gan Road entrances are closed to driving " plus no camping that is a huge change from what it used to be. I still say NSW are getting a very raw deal from the land managers and I hope I am wrong but I see no signs of it getting any better.

Idler Chris, that MOU ( I believe it is just a verbal agreement) isn't that great.

It states that no Gazetted roads will be closed without NOTICE to FWD Vic.

About 7 tracks were closed in the Otways without FWD Vic being notified.
When FWD Vic approached Parks about why these tracks, which were gazetted roads were closed without notice, they were informed that the roads had been ungazetted. When? 1 week prior to the closure!

While FWD Vic is doing a great job and many areas of Parks are working together, there are a great many areAs in Parks Victoria run by the Vic Parks Association who oppose almost all 4wd activities.

It's not all rosey.

Peter,

The August 2012 meeting of Bathurst Regional Council resolved to place some money into the 2013/2014 budget to investigate options for the future of the Track.

And to be honest, all it would take is to hire a contractor to drill and blast the rock....

And as probably 80% of the track is technically unstable ( the cutout sides to it ), no extra work would be needed...

Once you get council involved these things bog down for years and years.

Here in Cessnock where I live, the council roadbuilders now build roads with the potholes already installed.
