Desert's Gate, Giles Breakaway

Hi all,

Next time you're traveling along the Great Central Road try and find a bit of time to visit Desert's Gate.

It is situated in the Giles Breakaway.

Explorer David Carnegie passed through the "Gate" in 1894 when traveling on his first expedition with Gus Luck.

I have loaded the position and a few pictures into the places section HERE; I confirmed its location last Easter so I thought it was about time I made it public.

Interestingly, Frank Hann named the Breakaways in 1905, 11 years after Carnegie was there.

Cheers
Alan

Hi Alan

Next time we are passing, we will take the time to investigate, and thanks for making it public. These type of places mean so much more when you know the full history.

Have a very Happy Easter.

Cheers

Hi Stephen,

You are right, knowing the history of a place makes all the difference.
What was once a nice looking gap and some boulders amongst the breakaways, now takes on a whole new meaning.

Have a great Easter!!

Cheers

Alan Phil B (WA) will be out that way for next couple of weeks, leaves tomorrow. Wonder I he knows about this area?.

Hi Mike,

I showed Phil and his traveling companions the Gate the day after I arrived there. It was a prearranged meeting as I was highly confident I had chosen the correct location. They were passing by anyway.

I wish I was going with him this time.

Cheers
