Yep. We had big issues with them back in 2011. Short story is, had them perform a lift on our cruiser, they did not do a front wheel alignment, as a result one tyre got damaged, we had to change our travel plans and come back so they could rectify the problem, which they did and they did replace the tyre. But not impressed with them. In fact I thought ARB was taking their agency from them? Kevin

I gather there was a case of big bill? I also assume it was considered out of proportion to reasonable , given remoteness of service and higher prices in NW.
are they only mech in town? was there any justification given? no quote/estimate in advance?

......I was charged $100 for a new cap off my Patrol brake fluid pot in Kalg once- It was explained to me that it was $15 for actual cap and fox overnite up from perth! , the other $90 or so was for mechanic wages..otherwise he can walk to mine over the road and get $100,000 starters a yr to get out of bed! I paid up!
Tradie wise, it can cost up to $90-100 an hour labour, +parts with a callout fee sometimes as well..

PS: thats not the only thing thats up to $100 an hr in Kal!

is it worth writing to RAC and ARB to advise them of the facts/details ? ....as I'm sure they wouldnt want their name /liscence/agency associated if it can be shown this is occuring. Tried consumer affairs?

Those prices are not too bad for remote areas Mike.....I've recently paid $120 ph in Canberra for a 4WD specialist mechanic. Interestingly in Weipa last August I only paid $80 ph for a mechanic to do some work for me so I guess the remoteness and proximity to alternative work in the mines varies across the country.

Fair enough warn people about bad expieriences but to Name and shame a company without some sort of explanation is likely to get you in the bleep !
The only minor reson to bag them I can see is they didnt do a wheel alignment once, but rectified the problem and replaced the tyre????

Not sure how telling the truth and having proof will ‘get you in the bleep ’ as you put it. I think you will find fairly balanced information on this site. Some will talk about their unfortunate experience, leaving the thread open for anyone to counter with a good experience and other threads will be all about good experiences. Most of the bad experiences are not deformation, but actual case stories. I think we are all able to make up our own minds and treat each story as we think fit. But this is an open forum and I personally want to know if I should be wary about a particular business that I may have to use one day. With my story about a wheel alignment, when you get a lift done it is very important and we were lucky not to have had a serious accident. But like I said, they did fix it but there is more to the story and I will not elaborate. If the administrators want to delete the tread, so be it. Kevin

Point taken. They should have backed up their statement with some true facts. Kevin

GarryD a bit more info would be nice what to actually be weary of and why. and yes if they are that bad it would be a good idea to complain to their head office so other unwary travellers don't get caught out thanks

Well so far the OP has not come back with anything whatsoever to substantiate his comment.

I think he could be labelled a Troll if we don't hear any more from him.

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy

A job that should of taken 20 hours I was charged for 40 hour got 10 K out of Broome motor stopped.
A part he was told to replace wasn't replaced.
Swore it was. Said it wasn't on jobcard and jobcard lost
Jobcard came to life It was on the card
Then tried to charge me for a day and a 1/2 for their mistake.
