G'day All
I remember seeing some time ago a detailed post on here about fitting a gas heater in to a Jayco campervan. Yes I know I will need a qualified gas fitter to do the gas connection, but I am contemplating buying the Dometic Gas heater kit for $1600-$1800 and fitting it myself. I am not experienced in working on caravans, but have a large shed with all the necessary tools, and am fairly handy/competent when it comes to DIY, I am a hands on site engineer by profession.
Has anyone else done this at
home, how difficult was it, how long did it take, and did you wish you had spent the extra $1000 to $1500 to have it professionally installed?
Thanks in Advance
Snowy

Snowy, It is illegal to DIY gas appliances. All gas installations MUST have a compliance certificate; apart from any safety issues, kiss your insurance goodbye.

Its not illegal to do the DIY the fitting of the unit and electricals (its all 12V) and as the original poster said, he knows he needs a gas fitter to do that part of the installation.

There is more to compliance than just connecting a pipe!

We have a Jayco Eagle and use a gas light to heat the van. Make sure you have a little ventilation. Works a treat and provides a nice light as
well

I was going to have one fitted while I had my van serviced. Told Save your money. Use extra blankets. The heaters have are more trouble than they are worth. Besides the aircon is reverse cycle.
