Hi coley62, it's been closed for ages - since the 2010 floods. See this link to SA Parks which says track repairs needed before it opens. Link here:
Simpson Desert link
Now we could ask the question as to why it is still closed after all this time..... W

I have it on good authority that the
Warburton track has been trafficable since last July when the
river crossing dropped below 1m. There are no muddy sections anywhere but there is considerable regrowth along the flood plain making the track difficult to see & scratchy in
places. Heading north apparently the track is faint be it a little eroded but easy to find. It's likely a few enthusiastic convoys have been through since then.
My guess is as it's been closed for so long the Land Managers didn't bother going out to look last season & will have to justify some money to grade the 1st 60 km's before it gets opened. Official sites at least indicate this will be done.
Cheers Craig.......

Gday Coley
Only today I rang my contact at SA Gov outback roads dept .
Emma tells me that they are now working their way through a list of repair works orders. Infact as late as yesterday repairs are complete on
Walkers crossing and she tells me it is now open. Whilst she couldnt give a definative answer, she stated that they will get to each site in need of work, she just wasnt sure as to when it will happen.
Wether it happens before your trip at this stage remains a mystery.
I mite see you up there myself. If the crossing opens before the middle of July I intend to head through the crossing in a convoy of 4 vehicles
Cheers
D. B .

Ask or ring the nearby roadhouse which name escapes me. They gave us info in 2007 and it was actually open but no_one had removed the sign. It will be on your map and has camping and a pool. I think it starts with B.

Maybe they only give advice when you are actually there on
the spot, or it has changed staff as the guy we spoke with was very helpful.
Have a great trip and stay safe.

Coley
I too had contacted Mungerannie station and got a similar response .
I am told the owner is ther best person to talk to, but unless you are lucky enough to strike him on the phone you will hang up "empty handed" so to speak
The other information source I have had success in the past has been with my contact at Etadunna Station, Patsy , she is always a good information provider
Give her a call, I am sure she will be of help
Good Luck on your trip
Cheers
