Have just spent a week working in Tassie which involved a lot of country road driving around the central, eastern and southern areas. Haven't been to Tassie for around 10 years and what struck me this time was the amount of road kill of native animals which included wallabies, pademelons, possums, quolls and even a dunnart and a bettong.
With many hit on the road I thought it must show there were big populations in the bush but after speaking to some locals, the comments were consistent that it was more an indication of how much the Devil numbers have been decimated, as in the past they would very quickly clean up and remove the road kill.
Lets hope the boffins find a cure for the facial cancer before the Devil
population becomes unsustainable.

poitr,
Most of the tourist outlets in Tassie have "Road Kill" recipe books.
Waste not want not, LOL
Bought one myself.

So hope they find a cure or vaccination for the devil's facial tumours.
Still not good that there is a lot of road kill.

A massive shame about the road kill while we were there for the last two months but our eldest loves his road kill recipe cookbook
