Simpson - Whats your favourite tracks?

Last year i did the Simpson East to West, QAA - French Line.

Next week I am going back to do it again, we were going to do it single vehicle in reverse, French Line - QAA however now a mate in another vehicle is going to come and is restricted by time so the best for us is to do E - W again, I'm not too keen to do the same track again so what are the suggestions out there? (we like a challenge not a highway drive!)

You're on the wrong side of the NT border. You need to do the Madigan Line.

Go for it - we only had two weeks from Melbourne and made it (twice).

Hoping to figure out a way to get to Simpson C of G this year

Gday Robin
With 4000hp it should only take a couple of days.

Hi Robin

There are a number of way, some easier than others. The easiest is north on the Colson Track, turn west on very old shot line. That section can take 2 days. Once out on the main north/south shot line, it is a reasonable track north, sometimes blown over in sections.

Then west on an almost completely overgrown track. Then when it is time to head south again, it is a reasonable drive between the dunes.

When you are around 2 kilometres from it, you can not miss it.....why, well because of this, which can be seen from a very long way..

Cheers

Now Muz - I have just spent $1500 and got a genuine 3% more power and fuel economy - I'll be bankrupt by the time I get to 4000HP.

Stephen thanks for taking the time to reply - I have been meaning to ask a general question about this - I might as well do it today before I get tied up in the next project.

P.S. Did you mean west off Colson - I have tried to check out the track going east from Colson but it doesn't exist.

I don't think any of the main superhighways in the Simpson are a challenge unless condition deteriorate (rain, sandstorm, snow).

You don't leave yourself much time if you're leaving in one week and you don't know where you're going.

Every years the Simpson changes so doing the same track can be different.

It sounds like you just want to go out for a fang and do it quickly but then again you have given your self 2 weeks.

"restricted by time so the best for us is to do E - W again"........ if it takes you 7 days to do it east to west then it's going to take you 7 days to do it west to east, It's the same distance on the same roads just in reverse!

Thanks for the reply Olcooltone,
No we are not out for a fang! 2weeks is plenty of time to do Simpson from Melbourne It's just quicker to go up Birdsville track for us to head across from the East as the other party actually only has a week in total, we will do the desert in 3 days, 4 if we take our time, they will head home from Dalhousie via Coober Pedy and we will spend the next 4-5 days on Western side and go to Chambers Pillar, then home.

Maybe I should have left the bit off my original post about highway and challenge as it is clearly being misread!

Don't get me wrong, the Simpson is a great challenge and the French Line is known as one of the most difficult especially E-W as we did last year, I was simply looking for suggestions other than that track (QAA-French Line) that is as challenging and not the easiest!
